In my last post Water Quotes from Movies and Films and during our Water We Talking About? podcast with Paul O’Callaghan, I give a big thanks to actor Matt Damon for his efforts around water. In the hopeful documentary Brave Blue World, Matt expresses my sentiments and those of many of my fellow water professionals… "How lucky are we that we are the ones who get to solve this?"
Matt continues to use his fame as a water activist. He and Gary White, through their non-profit Water.org, empower families around the world by helping them gain access to safe water and sanitation with affordable financing. With their “Buy a Lady a Drink” campaign in partnership with Stella Artois, they raise money by selling “chalices”. I love the idea of referring to their offering as a sacred vessel, owning a set of these artful glasses myself. Embracing this connection between women and water is a concept very close to my heart as evidenced by my post Women and Water, Part 2. And Matt uses humor to raise money and call attention for clean water and sanitation, launching a “toilet strike” several years ago by promising not to go to the bathroom “until everyone has access to clean water and sanitation.”
