Safeguarding the Spa Industry From Legionella Risks
Jim Lauria
Preventing Legionella from getting into your spa, starts with either chlorine or bromine. But they aren’t strong enough to handle personal care products, bodily secretions, metals, bacteria and microorganisms that exist in your hot tub PLUS the Legionella bacteria. The key ingredient to a safe, clean and clear spa is ozone. When used in conjunction with your regular hot tub sanitizer, ozone helps kill dangerous microorganisms and breaks down harmful chemicals, thus freeing up your primary disinfectant to be reused throughout your system for long-term control. Be aware, choosing the right ozone system is vital. Intense, forceful mixing and high ozone concentration are necessary to ensure that ozone is transferred completely into the water—ozone escaping into the air isn’t disinfecting your water. Working together, your sanitizer of choice… in combination with ozone… will enable you to have a truly relaxing spa experience.
